This summer, I’ve been more interested in natural beauty and wellness in general, and as such, makeup has not really been a focus of mine. Enjoying this new-found freedom of minimalism and a bare face was the perfect time for me to try out this recently introduced plant-based skincare line, Bella Aura.
Bella Aura is a Canadian made line consisting of 5 products to achieve a complete skincare solution.
What sets this line apart from others is their exclusive blend of natural oils called the Kamilah complex. The Kamilah complex is inspired by ancient Moroccan tribal wisdom and consists of four specific oils from;
The Argan Tree – the oil from this fruit is known for its high nutritional value for the skin
The Fig de Barbary – oil from the seed of a cactus fruit with a high concentration of Vitamin E
Neroli – from the flower of the bitter orange tree
Nigella – from black cumin seed
Vitamins and nutrients from plant and fruit oils are said to be healing for the skin since they can help to topically repair cellular damage caused by inevitable pollutants and the natural processes of aging.
Obviously the more natural and pure the source, the more effective oil extracts will be in producing anti-aging effects. Bella Aura has a purity policy ensuring that their products are 100% natural, organic, pesticide-free during farming, and cold-pressed during processing.
The complete skincare line consists of; Gentle Purifying Cleanser, Antioxidant Booster, Daily Repair Moisturizer, Night Cellular Repair, Instant Lifting Eye Contour.
They claim that their formulas are emulsions, combining the actions of a serum and a cream: delivering the active ingredients of vitamins and minerals to the deeper levels of the skin while maintaining hydration on the surface.
Yasmine, the founder of the brand, was inspired to develop the line after experiencing severe skin issues and scarring acne. On a trip to Morocco, an herbalist introduced her to oils which actually worked to alleviate her skin conditions after a few months. These are the oils that are used in Bella Aura’s emulsions, combined with advanced ingredients to deliver the nutrients and effects quickly.
Yasmine claims that she no longer wears makeup. After using Bella Aura for a month I can definitely see why …
In a nutshell, I feel that this line helped to enhance my skin’s natural beauty and achieve a pretty good level of the potential that my skin could be.
Realistically, it’s hard for me to achieve a completely flawless look, because there are always factors other than skincare products that contribute to our appearance such as environmental pollution (especially if you live in a city) and diet. But these are reasons why you would want to try something like Bella Aura, to help defend against those factors.
So my skin condition, I can say honestly, has ameliorated. As a person whose skin is dry and prone to redness and eczema, this line worked well for me and resulted in a complexion that feels more rejuvenated and moisturized.
I admit I was scared to try the Gentle Purifying Cleanser, since all facial cleansers I’ve ever used irritate my skin. This one did not. It truly is gentle as the name implies and did not make my skin feel dried out afterwards. I was pleasantly surprised.
I really like the Instant Lifting Eye Contour – it’s very gentle and smoothes my skin in that delicate area.
My favourite is the Antioxidant Booster. I have a lot of blotchiness and discolouration from pimples, but I’ve noticed that a high quality topical antioxidant such as this one can help alleviate those issues by delivering vitamins and minerals to the skin. The pimple scars on my face have a less visible appearance and my redness is reduced.
The Antioxidant Booster is very moisturizing as well, so I haven’t used the Moisturizer too much for the daytime. I do use the Night Cellular Repair before going to bed, which is nice and gentle.
All the products have a really nice fragrance to them, that is very unique, pleasant, sweet and earthy at the same time. Not too sweet though, and with a slight peppery-ness. Very naturally beautiful smelling and not overwhelming.
Overall, the Bella Aura skincare line was a great addition to my new phase of embracing a bare face and natural beauty. I’ve enjoyed the simple and short ritual of using the products on a daily basis as my beauty regimen and feeling like I didn’t need anything else.
I think this would be a great line to try if you want to repair skin damage with a safe, healthy and plant-based brand and also if you want to start to weaning yourself off needing to wear makeup everyday. I also think this would be great if you have a special event coming up and you want to start prepping your skin in advance for the special day.
Bella Aura is available at Petal and Post.
