The first snowfall of the year is special.
It marks the excitement of a new season and a time for pause and reflection. The days are shorter than they will ever be all year and the world is sleeping under a blanket of snow.
Many plants are dead and useless, there is not much left to harvest and now we have to sustain ourselves with what we’ve managed to gather and preserve from the warm season and just try to survive. Or at least that’s what it would have been like in the old times. Such are the workings of my romantic and nostalgic mind.
Speaking of that, this is why we have such affections for the dying and dead season. There is always an excitement about Fall and Winter. Same with Spring and Summer, but a different kind.
Its exciting because its a pause, a stillness, a rest before new life springs forth. Its so beautiful to dwell in the frozen realm of potential.
Things have to die lest they become stale and stunted. It can’t always be an eternal summer, because things would never get a fresh start. (At least in my world it can’t be, I could never live without seasons).
Instead, its an eternal cycle of renewal.
And that’s how people learn, grow and become wiser and stronger. Going through the underworld (winter) is necessary for regeneration and improvement.
Maybe that’s why we think of it as winter magic.
Anyways, time to reflect, enjoy the beauty and “hygge”!
These beauties are rosehips. You should know what they are for survival situations, if you ever find yourself in a dilemma outdoors in the winter. They contain more vitamin C than oranges. They can be eaten as they are, but some people say to spit out the seeds.
I love taking pictures in the snow. I totally forget that it is cold and focus on what I’m trying to create.
This sweater that I’m wearing, I got from a thrift store. It’s in perfect condition, just my size and I think it is hand knitted. It was a great find!
My skirt is vintage from the 1970’s I believe. It was my Aunt’s. I treasure it and wear it often. I’m the only one who fits in it in my family.
I’m keeping my legs warm with PACT organic leggings.
Hope you’re enjoying the winter, and Happy Yule Season!
